OSU Engage FAQ

What is OSU Engage?
OSU Engage is a new program that seeks to connect student-volunteers with members of the community that are in need of assistance. The goal is to help students develop interpersonal skills that will allow them to succeed after graduation while providing a valuable service to the city of Stillwater.

How does it work?
Members of the Stillwater community can submit a Request for Volunteers by filling out the form located here. Our office will then post a job listing in our student portal where student-volunteers can sign up to complete the job. Once the appropriate number of student-volunteers have signed up, our office will contact the community member to confirm that student-volunteers will be available to complete the service request. The student-volunteers will then show up on the designated day and complete the requested service project. In the event that an insufficient number of student-volunteers sign up, our office will contact the community member to discuss their options.

I do not want my personal information to be publicly available. How does OSU Engage protect my privacy?
In an effort to protect the privacy of community members, the personal information provided on the Request for Volunteers form will not be publicly posted. Only student-volunteers that have signed up to complete the job will receive the name, phone number, and address given on the request form.

What kinds of service projects can be requested?
Yard work, house cleaning, manual labor, and assistance running errands are appropriate service projects to request. Qualified student-volunteers for service projects that require certain skills (i.e. repairing a fence, cutting down a tree, etc.) may be more difficult to find, but we will do our best to meet your request. Requests that we will NOT accept include but are not limited to:  child care service, projects that cannot be completed within six hours (i.e. painting a house), projects that might compromise the safety of the student-volunteers, and projects that our office deem as unreasonable.

Do I have to provide my own tools or will they be provided by OSU Engage?
Community members are responsible for providing any and all tools that are necessary to complete the requested service job (i.e. trash bags, lawn mower, painting supplies, etc.). OSU Engage does not provide supplies to our student-volunteers, but student-volunteers are welcome to use any supplies they own if they desire. If you are unable to provide the appropriate tools, contact Joyce Montgomery with the Service-Learning Volunteer Center at 405-744-5145 to see if tools can be located.

I need my service job to be completed immediately. Can OSU Engage help me?
OSU Engage is not capable of providing same day student-volunteers. Request for Volunteers forms must be submitted a minimum of five days before the requested service date. It takes time to find and coordinate student-volunteers, so the earlier that you can make your request the better. Depending on the time of year, student-volunteers may have other commitments that prevent them from signing up for service projects. OSU Engage makes no guarantee that we will be able to locate student-volunteers to complete your service project.

Circumstances have changed and I need to change/cancel my request for volunteers. Who should I contact?
Community members should contact Cara Duprey with the Service-Learning Volunteer Center at 405-744-7673 to make any changes to their Request for Volunteers form after it has been submitted.
