The Student Government Association (SGA) Sustainability Committee was established in 2007 to unite students interested in encouraging good stewardship of resources, serving as ambassadors for sustainable practices, and making a difference on Oklahoma State University's campus.
Through their annual and award winning tailgating recycling efforts during each Cowboy football season, the committee is working to reduce OSU's environmental footprint with "Real Cowboys Recycle". With the Green Student Forum, like-minded students and organizations are welcomed for an evening of collaboration and innovation. Each spring during the week-long celebration, EarthFest, the committee and all of OSU's most sustainability-minded organizations make efforts to educate peers and members of the community about how they can make small changes in their everyday lives that make a big difference in the lives of others.
The Sustainability Committee also oversees the selection process of the Green Student Initiative Grants--a program in which students with new ideas for OSU's campus can be provided resources to make their original initiatives happen. Through an application and interview-presentation process, recipients are selected by a panel of judges and awarded grants to fund their initiatives.
For the 2018-2019 school year, the Sustainability Committee is scheduled to meet weekly on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. in 211P Student Union starting August 30, 2018.
The Fall Green Student Forum will be held in late November. The Spring Green Student Forum will be held in late March. Dates, times, and locations TBA.
Green Student Initiative applications will be available February 1, 2019 and will be accepted until March 1, 2019 at 5 p.m.
EarthFest 2019 is scheduled for the week of April 22-26, 2019.
