NPHC Prospective Members
Welcome Prospective Members and Parents to the National Pan-Hellenic Council! Please see the information below on how to join an organization within our community.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) participates in a deferred recruitment commonly known as the Membership Intake Process (MIP). Before an individual can join a NPHC organization, he or she must have accumulated 12 or more credit hours at Oklahoma State, earned a 2.5 cumulative GPA, be in good standing with the University and attended NPHC Convocation in the academic year (or a semester before) the student plans to participate in intake. Attending one convocation session will keep students eligible for membership for two semesters.
2018 Spring NPHC Convocation will take place on Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 at 6:30PM in the Student Union Theater. Please note that Business Casual attire is strongly preferred, and there will be no admittance after 6:30PM. Also, your OSU Student ID is required to enter.
How do I join a NPHC organization?
STEP ONE: Convocation
The purpose of Convocation is to give students information about the various organizations, membership requirements, and benefits of joining a chapter within NPHC.
Convocation is also an opportunity for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs to discuss important information about hazing guidelines, the challenges of joining a Greek-letter organization, and the various guidelines specific to joining a fraternity or sorority at OSU.
Students who are interested in joining a National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) organization are required to attend Convocation. The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs will track student attendance and share this information with chapters. Students who have not attended a session will not be cleared to participate in Intake/New Member Education.
STEP TWO: Do your research!
In order to determine which organization is right for you, we encourage students to attend different NPHC fraternity and sorority events held on campus, and to also get to know the members of each organization to determine your fit. Attending informational meetings are also a great way to learn more about the organizations in depth.
STEP THREE: Membership Intake or Member Recruitment
Each organization takes individuals through a MIP. The process is comprised of an informational meeting/Rush, a formal application process, and fraternity/sorority education sessions. All MIP activities should take 6-10 weeks and will end before Pre-Finals Week.
- At least 12 or more credit hours at Oklahoma State University
- Community Service Hours
- Letters of Recommendation (Active members, Alumni, Professors)
- 2.5-3.0 GPA
- New member classes range in size typically from 1 member to 20 members

Statement Against Hazing
The organizations of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC) are committed to nurturing the ideals of sisterhood and brotherhood in an atmosphere of responsibility and respect. We are also committed to upholding the dignity and self-respect of all persons seeking membership therein. Hazing is antithetical to this commitment and is prohibited by the rules of each NPHC organization.
In 1990, the member organizations of the NPHC jointly agreed to disband pledging as a form of admission. The members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council do hereby reaffirm our unequivocal opposition to hazing and those who seek to perpetuate it. The definition of hazing has been held to include any action taken or situation created that involves or results in abusive, physical contact or mutual harassment of a prospective fraternity or sorority member; and that any such action is considered hazing, whether it occurs on or off the fraternity or sorority premises, campus or place where chapters or prospective members meet. Hazing has also been described to include any action that results in excessive mutual or physical discomfort, embarrassment or harassment; that such activities include, but are not limited to paddling, creation of excessive fatigue, physical or psychological shock, morally degrading or humiliating activities, late work sessions that interfere with scholastic activities and any other activities inconsistent with fraternal law and regulations and policies of the affiliated educational institution and federal, state or local law; and such illegal conduct is inimical to the principles for which each organization stands and fails to foster respect for fellow members or preserve human dignity.
